For about 30 years I have been making pictures that contain the image of a Buffalo. I have designed, drawn, colorized, cut-out, assembled, re-assembled, and placed these images at one angle or another on a piece of paper or a canvas or a wall or a T-shirt. Eventually this image has taken on the quality of a symbol, logo, icon. Depending on its context, it has become a visual representation for a variety of complex meanings, not unlike a circle or square or triangle…which are also simple shapes that have come to represent complicated qualities of human experience.
First begun in 1977, The Buffalo Series continues to develop as a work in progress.
The Buffalo Series is also available on T-Shirts and other graphic arts products.
